So Many Broken Promises

Obama

Four short years ago, when President Obama was running for the office he now occupies, many promises were made to the American people. Liberal promises to garner support from those on the left and practical promises to those in the middle. Obviously, this strategy worked and got him elected, but how did it turn out?

The list of broken promises made by Mr. Obama are too numerous to list here, there are literally hundreds. Most are long forgotten by a media that's supposed to keep track of these things, along with the voting public, who typically has a short attention span. Well, I'm going to site a few of the whoppers here, but by all means, do some research online for the entire list and be prepared to be shocked.

Cut the deficit in half: This is a big one. Mr. Obama, on the campaign stump, repeated this line over and over again, mostly for the independent vote. How did he do? Under President Bush, the debt rose by $4.9 trillion in eight years, which averages out to $612 billion per year. Under President Obama, the debt rose $5.4 trillion in four years, averaging $1.35 trillion per year. So he didn't cut the deficit in half, he doubled it!

Close Guantanamo Bay: Another promise repeated over and over again as the sop to the liberal base. Well, Gitmo is still open, nuff said on this one.

Patriot Act Revisions: As a US Senator, Mr. Obama had several reservations and criticisms of President Bush's Patriot Act. As President Obama, he has signed two extensions to this law, leaving it essentially unchanged.

Lobbyists in the Administration: Another sop to his liberal base, Mr. Obama promised that "No political appointees in an Obama-Biden administration will be permitted to work on regulations or contracts directly and substantially related to their prior employer for two years. And no political appointee will be able to lobby the executive branch after leaving government service during the remainder the administration." That one went out the window within weeks of Mr. Obama taking office.

Repeal Bush Tax Cuts: Again to the democrat base, which truly believes that allowing people to keep more of the money they earn is an expense of the government, Mr. Obama promised to allow the Bush tax cuts to expire. Another promise broken (thank goodness).

Increase the Minimum Wage: During the 2008 campaign, Mr. Obama vowed to increase the minimum wage to $9.50 per hour. This never happened and was quickly forgotten.

Cap and Trade: To secure the environmental vote, then Senator Obama promised to "set a hard cap on all carbon emissions at a level that scientists say is necessary to curb global warming". Another broken promise (and again, thank goodness).

Comprehensive Immigration Reform: Senator Obama said "I cannot guarantee that it is going to be in the first 100 days. But what I can guarantee is that we will have in the first year an immigration bill that I strongly support and that I'm promoting. And I want to move that forward as quickly as possible." This never happened.

No Tax Increase on Anyone making under $250K: President Obama continues to offer this promise to this day, even though he's signed numerous bills into law already breaking this promise. Increased cigarette taxes, tanning-bed taxes, medical device taxes and the myriad of tax increases to everyone as a result of Obamacare clearly breaks this promise.

There are hundreds of campaign promises that President Obama has broken to all Americans. I can already hear the wailing from the progressives and lefties that it's those recalcitrant Republicans preventing the President from following through on all of these promises. Well, I'll remind everyone that President Obama had a significant Democrat majority in both houses of congress his first two years in office.

So, when entering the voting booth this Tuesday (it's actually Wednesday for Democrats this year), remember all the campaign promises President Obama made, and ask yourself "Can I really trust this guy at all?" and make the right decision.
